The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) assists the medical staff and hospital management in fulfilling their obligations to each other and their responsibilities to patients for the provision of quality care. The CMO works closely with the Chief of Staff and other physician leaders, including department, committee chairs and department service directors. He or she must be responsive to the concerns and needs of medical staff members and is expected to foster and contribute to a close and mutually beneficial relationship between the medical staff and hospital management. The CMO participates in the implementation of new service lines and in the evaluation of existing programs. The CMO provides: Supervision of the Medical Directors, Medical Staff Office, Graduate Medical Education and Orthopedic Fellowship functions and personnel; Oversight of the Dyad Leadership Model responsible for the direct supervision of all employed administrative physician leaders; Oversight of organization-wide Quality Management, Infection Control, Population Health; Oversight of the Department of Patient Safety; Oversight of the Peer Review Coordinator.
Serves as a member of the Executive Team reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
Provides supervision of the Medical Staff Office functions and personnel.
Supervises Medical Directors for Barton Health.
Maintains oversight of the Dyad Leadership Model responsible for the direct supervision of all employed administrative physician leaders.
Provides oversight of organization-wide Quality Management, Risk Management, Peer Review, and its personnel.
Functions as the physician liaison for all aspects of health system I.T. including EPIC administration and optimization.
Assists and interfaces with administration and management in all matters related to the Medical Staff and health care issues in a collaborative manner.
Attends administrative and Medical Staff meetings to assure medical staff has the most up to date information.
Serves as a liaison between medical staff and management specifically representing clinical interests to management.
Attends Medical Executive Committee, Governing Board and Strategic Planning Sessions to assure continuity of information between medical staff and the hospital and representation of the medical staff.
Communicates hospital issues, new items of business and strategic direction and progress to the medical staff via: Bulletin Board in Electronic or Written Fashion; conducting forums with the medical staff; performing walk around rounds; informal sessions.
Assists administration and Barton contracted medical groups with physician recruitment, including phone and onsite discussions with potential candidates.
Integrates with the hospital on a community-wide assessment in determining a five-year plan for physician succession.
Initiates, coordinates, and assists in ongoing medical staff/hospital management projects and activities, including revenue cycle programs.
Assists the Medical Staff in achieving its short and long-term objectives by planning and overseeing the implementation of appropriate programs.
Assists in establishing standards of performance and monitoring mechanisms for all departments, as part of quality improvement program: chair of Patient Safety Committee, member of Peer Review Committee; and assist with quality improvement teams and JC continuous readiness.
Assists with complicated credentialing issues – speak with physician’s references, residency physician advisor, etc...
Assists as needed with physician wellness committee and/or disruptive physicians.
M.D./D.O. degree with appropriate board certification or qualification and California license.
Minimum of 7 years active practice of medicine
Prior Vice Chief of Staff and/or Chief of Staff experience preferred
Ability to maintain part-time clinical work in the field of expertise
Prior Medical Staff leadership and supervisory experience
Exceptional leadership skills.
Ability to work independently.
