The Vice President (VP) of Nursing is a high-performing seasoned individual with the experience and ability to manage high profile, fast-paced and complex programs, while serving as a multi-purpose leader reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). The recognition of kidney disease, no matter what aspect of the continuum of care, has led to the development of nephrology nursing as a specialty. The practice of nephrology nursing encompasses the roles of direct caregiver, educator, coordinator, consultant, administrator and researcher. The VP of Nursing will be involved in all aspects of nursing at Satellite Healthcare.
The VP of Nursing is a positive, inspirational, self-motivated and customer-focused clinical executive leader who leads and encourages cooperation between customers and team personnel in response to ever-changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Well-developed organizational and communication skills are essential.
The VP of Nursing has successfully managed large projects and/or overseen of a portfolio of Nursing projects and/or programs, and is able to build positive working relationships with customers and key stakeholders. The VP of Nursing is a key strategic business partner to the COO, flexibly responding to needs and enhancing the internal capability within the Excellence organization to develop and drive changes that affect Satellite Healthcare’s long-term growth and financial health
This role sets Nursing’s long-term (3-5 years) strategy, policy and process improvement and aligns the implementation of tactics to long-term performance in all aspects of nursing at Satellite Healthcare, including Pre-ESKD, acute, chronic and home dialysis and associated therapies.
Key Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides leadership for Nursing scope and standards of practice
Provides indirect oversight of registered nurses and patient care technicians
Ensures the effectiveness of clinical competencies of all nursing, patient care technician and Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technicians (CCHTs) and Master CCHTs
Shares in the management of projects for Satellite’s core business dialysis excellence leaders:
Oversees management of the Float Pool
Heads Satellite Healthcare’s NSHN reporting, IT and Excellence projects and activities
Directs team assignments assigned by the Chief Operating Officer
Provides strategic leadership as the senior executive position responsible for all nursing and patient care technicians (including CCHTs) and responsible for other designated patient care functions and services within the dialysis services division.
Assumes responsibility for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating nursing practice on a facility level.The role assumes shared 24/7 responsibility and has accountability to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff, and appropriate resource management related to patient care.
Represents nursing concerns on the governing body and at medical staff or medical policy leadership meetings.Design, build and manage Nursing implementation project plans. Projects will focus on essential, cross-functional and cross-regional excellence initiatives that directly address the Strategic Plan and goals as well as excellence core business processes.
Defines scope, goals, and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior Excellence management, dyad leaders and stakeholders.
Sets and continually manages project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
Manages project meetings with a geographically diverse organization and report results to the COO.
Develops and executes project plans across operating groups within the organization and with external business partners and maintains necessary documents, including but not limited to project plans, issues and action logs, status reporting, and risk mitigation.
Serves on various committees, projects, action teams, strategy meetings on behalf of the COO where appropriate to lead clinical expectations, patient and employee safety, and efforts to support patient and staff education.
Identifies spotlight centers and leads climate assessments for troubled centers.
Ensures projects identified in excellence are effectively prioritized and coordinated for optimal implementation success and adherence to strategic priorities.
Balances the ability of excellence to deliver to standards while implementing projects that are most critical to improvement and/or strategic progress
Continuously improves process improvement practices. Streamlines, standardizes and optimizes excellence, optimization of processes and systems to support the growing needs of the organization.
Provides advice and counsel to COO and senior excellence leadership in approach, prioritization, sequencing, and tracking of projects and initiatives.
Establishes and provides reports to support the senior excellence leadership and COO
Participates in meetings and team functions within all dialysis centers, medical directors, medical clinical team, business services, risk management, compliance, Human Resources, Infection Control, Research, Excellence Leadership, Education, Information Services and Quality Improvement.
Responsible for driving the Satellite Healthcare culture through values and customer service standards
Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers
Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication
Takes initiative and action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner

Required Education & Experience:
An academic degree in nursing is required, and a Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field (Health Administration, Business, Public Health, or Management) is a plus
8 years of experience in clinically-orientated project or program management and optimization of business processes
Active and current registered nurse license in the state of residence/practice is required
Experience with process design and change management
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies & Abilities:
Ability to travel (as needed/moderate to high)
Ability to multi-task, superb attention to detail, strong organizational skill, ability to work with minimal supervision

Proficiency with all Microsoft applications
Financial and analytical skills

Ability to develop relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Able to read, write, speak, understand and satisfactorily communicate with others in English in person, over the phone and via email
CNN or other nephrology or similar certification in Nursing
Experience across multiple functions (Quality Improvement, Excellence, PM, IT, HR, Finance, Business Development, etc.)
Kidney care experience in either home, acute or in-center dialysis
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt certification a plus
Experience working within a PMO or clinical Program from start-up to successful performance improvement
Experience with working within a team-matrixed environment, including physicians/nephrologists
