The Medical Staff Director is responsible for coordination of administrative and medico-legal functions of the Medical Staff organization and the Medical Staff office. Serves as a communication link between Medical Staff and hospital departments to promote and enhance positive working relationships. Contributes to and provides guidance regarding development, implementation and monitoring of bylaws, policies and standards applicable to Medical Staff members relating to credentialing, corrective and disciplinary actions, and the administrative functions of the medical staff. Responsible for medical staff section of hospital accreditation surveys and reporting.
Education/Licensing: Bachelor degree or Master's preferred. NAMSS Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS); NAMSS Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) preferred or able to obtain within 1 year. Education and training which includes a broad range of management/leadership skills and medical terminology.
Qualifications/Skills/Experience: Strong understanding of compliance with regulatory agencies such as TJC, OHA, and CMA & IMQ requirements. At least three years experience in administrative or supervisory roles in a health care environment preferred. Knowledge of performance improvement. Possesses required skills and the ability to carry out essential and marginal job functions. Ability to work autonomously and manage time appropriately. Ability to prioritize, problem solve, organize and provide follow-up effectively. Proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet and other applicable Windows based computer programs. Ability to communicate in an effective and professional manner (verbal, written and electronic) and to summarize medical information. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Excellent critical thinking skills. Ability to effectively manage/lead a team.
Essential Job Functions: Advise/assist in analysis, formulation, adoption, implementation and follow-up of bylaws and policies. Plan, implement, follow-up, staff/arrange staffing for Medical Staff committees to facilitate performance of functions. Prepare/make presentations to individuals and groups. Collaborate/communicate with hospital and physician management/leadership and medical staff. Oversee credentialing/privileging process. Orient new Medical Staff members. Participate in performance improvement activities. Participate in performance improvement activities. Departmental HR management. Accountability for budget and resource management. Prepare department for accreditation surveys. Assist in administration of investigations, corrective action, due process hearings and mandatory reporting requirements.
