Utilizing department software, the Diet Assistant transcribes patient diet orders in a manner that facilitates accurate delivery of nourishment from tray line to patient. In tandem with clinical nutrition staff, ensures that patients’ specialized dietary needs are met.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality service and patient satisfaction.
Reports directly to the Diet Office Manager.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
GENERAL COMPUTER COMPETENCIES-Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers or workstations.
DESKTOP TOOLS-Knowledge of and ability to use office support tools available at the desktop (e.g., word processing, e-mail, presentation software and spreadsheets).
ORGANIZATION SKILLS-Organization Skills
HIPAA-Knowledge and understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS-Customer service skills is a series of activities designed to enhance the level of customer satisfaction, that is, the feeling that a product or service has met the customer expectation.
TEAM PLAYER-Must be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Previous work experience with standard and special diets preferred.
Work experience dealing with the public is desirable.
Minimum of 6 months experience working with a food service information system, such as
COMPUTRITION, or an equivalent preferred.
Requires minimum of six months on the job training if no prior experience.

Travel may be required
May be required to work multiple shifts and weekends
Work involves walking/standing for extended periods of time
