The Vascular Lab Technologist is a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer that provides diagnostic vascular testing using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures, assists in reporting test results and submits preliminary test reports.
The scope of practice of the Vascular Laboratory Technologist includes: Performs noninvasive vascular testing, preliminary interpretation and reporting of test results, Independent triage patient history and exam requests, Assessment of results to determine level of disease and need for additional testing or urgency of further care or reporting to provider; Collaborates with providers to enable the appropriate patient care , depending on the results of exams; Communicates test results with referring providers to ensure timely and appropriate patient care.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and to maximize patient satisfaction. Works within the guidelines by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) for Vascular Testing. Meets the qualifications to provide care to patients in the age range of 0-100 years of age.
Works under the direction of the Vascular Lab Supervisor.
SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES:
1. Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times. Consistently supports and practices the standards of Geisinger’s C.I. Care and patient experience initiatives.
2. Ensures the safe and clinically appropriate operation of all diagnostic equipment. Reports equipment failures and patient incidents.
3. Participates in the orientation and training oof new employees and demonstrates exams to students, residents in training and staff as assigned.
4. Assures accurate completion and documentation of exam data, verification of patient identity, reason for test and labeling of results.
5. Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all staff and co-workers.
6. Follows department test protocols for completion of vascular lab tests and research studies; adheres to IAC accreditation guidelines, regulations of Joint Commission, PA DOH, GHS infection control, etc.
7. Maintains CME and RVT credential requirements, attends department meetings and seminars and displays a continuing interest and knowledge of the field as technology evolves.
8. Coordinates with other staff to ensure appropriate patient care. Addresses patient care concerns as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
9. Performs other tasks related to vascular lab work flow, e.g. review of vascular lab orders, telephone calls, exam room prep, etc.
10. Follows patient safety and quality improvement guidelines of the Vascular lab and Geisinger.
11. Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required. Associates degree preferred.
RVT credential required.
The employee is responsible for Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for the Registered Vascular Technology specialty (RVT).
Minimum of one year experience in Vascular Technology is preferred. Minimum of six months of the job to become familiar with all duties is required.
Maintains BLS certification.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed in a clinical and hospital environment.
The employee must be able to move diagnostic equipment on wheels; stand, sit and lift to perform basic job assignments; and assist patients with ambulation.
The employee will be required to respond to requests during assigned on call within the time determined by department management. Some travel maybe required for off-site testing.
