Reporting to the Director of Plant Operations, the Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that the environment of care (EOC) is maintained in a safe and secure state at all times, and in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. The Safety Officer maintains accurate life safety drawings, up-to-date basic building information, prepares and maintains Interim Life Safety Measures, oversees Above Ceiling Permits, participates in all Joint Commission, AHCA, Fire Marshall inspections and test. The Safety Officer prepares and maintains up-to-date Life Safety documentation binders and paperwork as required by TJC. Coordinates fire drills. Chairs Environment of Care Committee, preparing agenda, reports, minutes and identifies trends. The Safety Officer leads EOC risk assessments and follow-up activities. Serves as primary Plant Operations liaison with Infection Control department and prepare/oversee all ICRAâ��s (Infection Control Risk Assessment) and Infection Control Permits. The Safety Officer establish a multi-disciplinary team, set a schedule, and lead regular EC surveillance rounds in order to ensure that the buildings and grounds are maintained in a â��survey-readyâ�� state. Conduct daily inspections of, repair/maintenance and construction/renovation work to ensure that proper permits and documents are in place, life safety and infection control protective measures are established as required, and work is being performed so as not to put the safety of patients, visitors, medical staff, employees, or infrastructure at risk . The Safety Officer establish and implement a Contractor Work Rules program to ensure that any outside contractors function to the same standards of safety as do department personnel. Prepare and facilitate Life Safety/Environment of Care (EOC) New Employee Orientation according to HRâ��s schedule.
Position Qualification: (Training, Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities)
A degree in engineering, architecture, safety, emergency and disaster management, construction management or related fields preferred for this Safety Officer role.
Seven to ten yearsâ�� experience in supervision and management of professional and technical disciplines. Must possess leadership ability and have good human relations skills.
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Well-developed problem solving skills and ability to conceptual alternatives.
Strong understanding and familiarity with TJC, CMS, AHCA, and NFPA codes and regulations
Basic understanding and familiarity with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related mechanical systems
Basic understanding and familiarity with construction and carpentry
Basic understanding and familiarity with fire safety/prevention
Ability to read and understand plans, blueprints, and specifications
Ability and willingness to work outside normal business hours in order to oversee projects that would otherwise disrupt hospital operations.
