This position Serves as a Sterile Processing Trainer in the Sterile Processing Services (SPS) and develops and facilitates formal and informal training plans for the SPS training program. This position also serves as a member of the SPS team that performs a wide area of duties, including various cleaning, decontamination, assembly, sterilization and distribution processes associated with medical, surgical, and Reusable Medical Equipment (RME). Duties include but not limited to: -Trains staff on SPS procedures and operations of SPS functions. - Facilitates training of SPS staff through educational programs and job specific instruction. - Manages integrated training, programs as it relates to sterile processing procedures. -Improves SPS processes by facilitating the application for new technology of RME by training all new and existing staff. -Develops, monitors, and revises SPS educational programs for both new and existing staff. -Documents and assesses staffs training, to identify areas of strength and need. -Develops an education plan (literature review, continuing education, in-services, certification and/or formal education) to maintain and improve knowledge in specialized areas of processing RME. -Tracks, training and analyzes education data. -Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations to management and/or prepares reports based on findings. -Uses Microsoft Word, Excel or other software programs in order to complete reports and develop skills. -Develops and conducts the annual review of the SPS training program. -Communicates effectively with staff and management officials in-regards to sterile processing procedures. -Collaterally functions as a Medical Supply Tech (MST) at the full performance level, rotating assigned duties in the Decontamination, Preparation, High Level Disinfection (HLD), Case Cart and Sterile/Clean Storage Areas. -Independently prepares the full range of trays and sets necessary for use in various areas of the medical center, to include multiple clinic areas. -Independently operates and completes quality assurance testing of all equipment used in SPS. -Adheres to and/or monitors both JHQVAMC and SPS Infection Control Guidelines. -Performs quality assurance reviews on cleanliness and functionality of all RME. Work Schedule: Rotating weekday, weekend, and holiday shifts between 06:00am and 12:00mn. Includes after hours call that is currently voluntary with the potential to become mandatory.
