This position is located in the Environment Management Service of the Amarillo VA Health Care System (AVAHCS). The Primary Purpose of the Position is: to perform in the capacity of a Laundry Worker a series of continuous duties related to the ongoing requirements and needs of in-house laundry distribution and uniform provision, to assure that all required textile items are provided to the right location in the right quantity, condition, and timeframe. Major Duties: The Laundry/Linen workers move approximately 500,000 pounds of clean linen annually from the Albuquerque delivery truck to the linen room, then stocks carts to again transport to secondary linen storage rooms throughout the facility and Community Based Outpatient Clinics, on an established daily schedule. Incumbent interacts courteously with employees to order, fit, and provide uniforms for over 950 employees, and also interact with patients or visitors as the employee moves throughout the facility to safely provide clean textiles to over 40 secondary storage locations. Incumbent accurately documents transactions to account for textiles and uniforms placed in service, salvaged textiles, and emergency par levels. The incumbent moves carts of soiled linen to the linen truck, moves carts of clean linen from the truck to the linen room or consignment room; counts quantities of items received, unloads carts, and stocks shelves or carts, rotates stock; hangs or folds items as required for the linen room or using service; Records quantities of items stocked to assure proper accounting and notification to management for order adjustments; delivers linens on a timely basis to multiple clean linen rooms on patient units and in clinics or secondary storage areas to assure timely and proper patient care. Inspects items for suitability, examining them for holes, stains, tears, strings or lint before folding. Folds linen items manually, stacks, and places them in carts or shelving or onto transport carts for distribution as needed. Notifies management of linen levels for reorder as needed; and packages salvaged specialty items for AVAHCS and common items for Albuquerque.
