The Director of General Services is responsible for the operation of Fairview Hospital and associated Clinics, which consist of the main Hospital and 10 separate buildings comprising approximately 175,000 square feet. The Director of General Services will have oversight of Facilities Management, the Engineering Department, Environmental Services, Environment of Care Program, and special projects. The position requires initiative, sound judgement, and the ability to act rapidly and decisively in critical situations. Create and maintain an awareness of the concepts espoused by the departments whose goals are maximizing the utilization of manpower, supplies and equipment while improving quality.
Summary: The Director of General Services assists in the development and management of operating and capital improvement budgets. Oversees installations, operations, maintenance and repairs of buildings and grounds, utility systems and equipment, security and surveillance, and alarm systems. Collaborates with the Facilities Development/Project Management to ensure that architectural and utility systems are designed, correctly installed, and drawings are up to date. Coordinates with all hospital departments regarding the operations, maintenance and repair of all utility systems and equipment supporting the environment of care. Administration of activities and programs and ensures that the hospital is in compliance with all applicable building codes, Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA, and all other local, state and federal regulatory agencies at all times. Performs other duties as requested.
The Director of General Services directs the maintenance, operations, and control of the physical plant, buildings, and its dependent equipment. This leader holds primary responsibility for assuring that the Facility and Engineering Services meet all regulatory and accreditation compliance requirements related to the buildings, systems, and various codes. The Director is also responsible for dealing with large and small, unexpected emergencies that affect normal building function and/or its occupants. Through sound engineering practice and management, the building systems are maintained to provide a safe, reliable operating environment for patient care. The resources of the maintenance departments are directed to provide their respective services in the most cost-effective manner possible consistent with high quality standards. The Director coordinates and makes recommendations to management for the required capital investment to ensure continued services of the physical plant and equipment. The Director work collaboratively with and supports the Director of Emergency Management.
In depth experience and knowledge of healthcare facilities management.

Able to travel between locations, and able to traverse five floors of stairs rapidly to respond to fire alarms and emergencies as required by policy. Must have normal or correctable sight and hearing to respond to audio/video equipment signals.
