You Will Be Responsible For:
Utilizes hospital policies and procedures to identify patients with nutritional risk and provides expert nutrition assessment.
Evaluates and monitors nutritional status of hospitalized patients ranging from newborn to geriatric populations as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic concerns, using established standards of care.
Develops and implements an individualized plan for nutrition intervention in accordance with the patient’s medical program goals and objectives, nutrition prescription, and self-management training.
Obtains timely and appropriate data and analyzes/interprets data based on evidence-based standards.
Utilizes hospital policies and procedures to provide timely and appropriate nutrition intervention and therapy within the scope of practice defined by the hospital.
Develops a therapeutic plan of specialized nutrition support, including enteral and/or parenteral nutrition.
Provide recommendations for an individualized plan for nutrition intervention.
Collaborates with pharmacists for provision of parenteral nutrition care.
Evaluates the effectiveness and measures progress towards outcomes of medical nutrition therapy interventions.
Reassesses nutrition care process and implements changes as indicated.
Communicates with the medical team through interdisciplinary meetings, rounds and discharge planning meetings.
Assures that care delivered to each patient is in accordance with the State practice act.
Documents in the patient’s legal medical record.
Provides appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient’s medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis plan, implementation, and progress toward goals.
Follows hospital policies for documentation.
Avoids the use of unapproved abbreviations.
Provides professional nutrition counseling that is age and culture specific.
Identifies educational needs and provides current, hospital approved, nutrition education that is sensitive to the patient’s learning need, condition, readiness to learn, literacy, hearing language and age.
Assesses educational needs and provides nutrition counseling for individuals and groups.
Serves as the nutrition expert, educator and liaison to medical staff and allied health personnel.
Participates in community projects and education as assigned.
Conducts in-services and educational presentations to hospital/department staff.
Precepts, develops, and evaluates dietetic interns.
Trains and mentors’ new employees.
Supports the department’s goals and objectives.
Attends department meetings and remains up to date with department activities, communications and changes.
Assist in budget request and planning as needed.
Adheres to budget restraints, managing resources (time, materials, and staff) in a cost-effective manner.
Controls costs and minimizes waste.
Works cooperatively with foodservice staff to assure conformance to diet prescriptions.
Assists in achieving compliance with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations standards, with other accrediting organizations, and with regulatory agency standards, including state and federal.
Participates in planning and developing nutrition-related policies, procedures, and goals.
Assists in developing and revising of clinical forms and protocols.
What You Will Need:
Proficiency in CBORD computerized foodservice program.
Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND).
Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or related area required.
One year of experience in acute care setting preferred.
Experience using Cerner electronic medical record.
Acute Care and Rehabilitation experience.
Master’s degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or nutrition related field
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
Florida Department of Health Dietitian/Nutritionist license.
The Clinical Dietitian works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy that are integrated and compatible with the patient’s medical program goals and objectives. Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy using established standards of care and practice protocol/guidelines; managing resources in a cost-effective manner; participating in performance improvement efforts; and
