The Chief Financial Officer is responsible to oversee and administer the general accounting, patient business services, including third party reimbursement, medical records, financial, and statistical reporting functions of the hospital in accordance with established policies and accounting procedures. Compiles and prepares accurate financial reports and statements in a timely manner; manages the budget preparation and process; oversees annual audit process; preparation of annual cost report and applicable tax returns.
Manages the preparation and development of the hospital’s annual operating budget in conjunction with the hospital’s senior leadership team and department directors; manage the hospital’s charge master; approve and analyze expense allocations
Oversee and manage the annual audit process, data collection and preparation; assists independent auditors.
Prepare, produce, review and analyze the hospital’s annual cost reimbursement reports, 990 and other applicable tax returns; review of FRA reports, surveys, and payments; including: DSH audit/survey, and HIDI survey data.
Identifies and recommends appropriate internal controls as appropriate; provides mechanisms to monitor and verify compliance; works with auditors, hospital leaders, and other staff members to oversee the timely completion of the annual audit, cost report and 990 preparation.
Demonstrates working knowledge and understanding of Medicare, Medicaid reimbursement and the accounting and financial reporting regulations applicable to critical access hospitals and rural health clinics (CAH and RHC).
Prepares succinct, well-organized financial reports and plans; ability to present ideas and information to various levels of management; responsible for timely aggregation and dissemination of data/organizational performance reports.
Responsible for the regular review of the income statement and financial performance for all areas of responsibility; responsible to operate in a fiscally responsible manner via managing expenses and resource allocation. Communicates relevant revenue and expense information to staff members, providers, and hospital leadership.
Facilitates meetings and participates on committees/task forces as assigned; participates in administrator on-call rotation with other members of hospital leadership.
Ensure all established policies, procedures, standards of practice, and conduct guidelines are followed in accordance with all applicable rules, regulations, and hospital policy.

Regularly rounds with staff members; seeks and provides feedback, addresses all concerns in a timely manner. Works with staff members at all levels to facilitate and champion employee engagement initiatives.
Completes performance reviews for direct reports; recommends and implement plans for improvement as appropriate; utilizes problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with all staff members.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university required; Master’s Degree preferred; may hold CPA certificate/license.
3-5 years of accounting/financial management in a healthcare setting; hospital setting preferred; previous supervisory experience.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Knowledge of rural healthcare financial management; understanding of cost reporting and 990 requirements.
Strong computer skills, including spreadsheets, word processing, and graphing skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
