Summary: The work of stationary engineers is varied and complex. Responsible for the operation, maintenance, renovation and repair of boiler systems, chillers and all other mechanical systems in a facility. Stationary engineers perform work on boilers, chillers and steam systems; heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems; building automation systems; diesel engines, turbines, generators; pumps, piping and compressed gas systems; refrigeration and electrical systems and numerous other physical plant functions. Stationary engineers start up, regulate, repair and shut down equipment. Ensure that equipment operates safely, economically and within established limits by monitoring attached meters, gauges, and computerized controls. Manually control equipment and make the necessary adjustments. Use hand and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance ranging from a complete overhaul to replacing defective valves, gaskets, or bearings. Record relevant events and facts concerning operation and maintenance in an equipment log. Routinely check safety devices, identifying and correcting any trouble that develops. Stationary engineers also perform routine maintenance, such as repairing and replacing pumps, motors and other operating equipment, lubricating moving parts, replacing filters, and removing soot and corrosion that can reduce operating efficiency, test and chemically treat hydronic systems to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits.
Other information:
Three to five years experience in building maintenance. with One year experience working in a Central utility plant.
A degree from an accredited school, specializing in Mechanical System Maintenance preferred.
Familiarity with codes and regulations. Ability to drive hospital vehicle.
Responsibilities: Inspect and operate refrigeration, heating, cooling, and air conditioning systems and other equipment to assure that all are functioning properly. Perform chemical analysis and adjust chemical balances as required. Install new equipment and systems; repair and maintain equipment and systems as needed. Clean, lubricate, repair and or replace plant equipment as required. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on boiler, chiller and plant equipment. Assist other trades personnel as required. Act as work crew leader when work project requires it. Read and interpret blueprints and specifications; follow manufacturers instructions and specifications in operation, repair, and maintenance of systems. Maintain records, reports, and statistics as required; maintain appropriate manuals, blueprints, and other such materials. Keep work areas orderly, clean, and safe. Care for and maintain department equipment and supplies. Maintain established hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control; comply with codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies. Other duties as assigned.
