SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Assists in many operating room functions, including preparing the patient for surgery, ensuring the sterility of the operating room, operating equipment during surgery, and, in some instances, working as a surgical first assistant.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Care Is personally accountable for providing patient and employee safety at all times. Identifies and addresses potential patient and employee safety issues. Demonstrates understanding of technical skill for a specialty team required to provide care to patients and families and the ability to perform them with consistency and confidence. Is proficient and independent in scrubbing all procedures within the scope of the specialty team. Demonstrates the ability to make appropriate decisions, prioritize planned and unplanned events and address potential/actual problems. Responsible for content distributed in procedure pre-brief. Procedure preparation is focused on patient and employee safety, cost effective provision of supplies and equipment to facilitate patient care with positive outcomes.
Department Responsibilities Engages in doctor preference card (DPC) accuracy. Identifies potential problems and notifies management. Assumes ownership of problems. Demonstrates understanding of cost management process for PeriOp. Actively enhances flow of OR on daily basis. Engages in process improvement activities. Is an ambassador for their service demonstrating the organization's core values.
Professional Responsibilities Actively engages in recycling. Supports activities of shared governance. Demonstrates awareness of clinical research and its value to clinical practice. Recognizes the issues that impact health care delivery and focuses on being part of the collaborative solution. Demonstrate accountability for continued self growth and learning, serving as a role model to peers and functioning as a unit, hospital and community resource. Maintains all current responsibilities of a Certified Surgical Technologist.

Responsible for covering staffing needs of the specialty team, including when the specialty team is assisting with another discipline's procedure.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
Associate's degree from an accredited school for Surgical Technology or a related field.
Surgical Technologist certification within one year of hire
