Job Summary

Responsible for transporting patients to and from points of service, including admissions, discharges, ancillary departments, and other service areas. Performs a variety of patient and equipment handling duties to support clinical operations and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Transport patients safely and efficiently throughout the facility, including admissions, discharges, and ancillary services
• Handle and monitor patient oxygen equipment during transport, including attaching equipment and monitoring oxygen levels
• Assist with patient lifting, transfers, and positioning using proper techniques
• Follow infection control policies and safety procedures
• Transport equipment as needed to support patient care

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired
  • Includes graduates from an approved IU Health transition-to-work program
• Completion of training in all assigned competencies, including but not limited to:
  • Patient oxygen equipment use and monitoring
  • Patient lifting and transfer techniques
  • Infection control policies
• Ability to follow oxygen transport policies and procedures

Physical Requirements

• Ability to frequently work in a standing position and walk for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stoop, bend, and twist while handling weight
• Ability to perform repetitive motions, including grasping, fine manipulation, medium dexterity, and forearm/wrist rotation
• Ability to perform basic patient lifting using proper techniques learned through in-service training
