Job Summary:
Vanderbilt Health - Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for a Director, Operations, Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital.
Accountable to: Vice President, Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital.
As the Director of Operations at Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital, this individual would help manage a few key essential functions such as Environmental Services, Dietary, Emergency Operations, Facilities Management, among others. This leader would also serve on the Sr Management Team of VPH, and help guide and execute on strategy and operations across the hospital at large, and partner with other VPH leaders as well as leaders across the Vanderbilt Health system. This position will also lead and help in project management of key initiatives. This position will perform essential administrative, professional and other duties of a planning and analytical nature in support of major department or division activities, responsibilities, and goals.
Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital (VPH) consists of a number of key areas and services, including the 106-licensed bed inpatient hospital, psychiatric emergency department, neuromodulation services, and select outpatient services. The inpatient hospital includes 6 acute inpatient units treating child, adolescent, general adult, psychotic disorders, mood disorders, addiction, and geriatric psychiatric patients. The psychiatric emergency department is attached to the hospital building and is known as PAS (Psychiatric Assessment Services). Neuromodulation services include ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) and TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation). The outpatient services include Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). VPH also partners closely with other ambulatory outpatient services and across the VUMC system.
VPH achieved Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for the fourth time in 2022. VPH is one of only three stand-alone Magnet-designated psychiatric hospitals in the US and the only in the Southeast. VPH is also the only stand-alone psychiatric hospital that has achieved Magnet designation four times.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develops VPH budget, policies, and strategies that optimize operations by improving efficiency and effectiveness in care and service delivery process.
- Utilizes analytics, business analysis, manage key projects/programs.
- Develops VPH goals and objectives for the operational units based on system goals.
- Reviews, establishes, and revises policies, procedures, and standards related to all aspects of operations.
- Facilitates meetings to gather supportive data, concerns, and ideas in support of program/project objectives.
- Ensures the most effective operations of departments through program development, process improvement and coordination/integration of processes with other departments.
- Accountable for ensuring a multi-disciplinary framework that identifies and addresses issues, solves problems and evaluates outcomes. Participates on departmental and interdepartmental committees to address system problems/issues and facilitate information exchange.
- Models behavior consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the enterprise through leading, coordinating projects, innovation, initiating improvement, and developing new programs.
- Oversees assigned departments within VPH and manages vendor contracts for outsourced departments as needed.
- May serve as Hospital Administrator On Call (AOC) as part of the Emergency Management Operations.
- Creates and oversees appropriate Emergency Operations processes
- Performs other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree
- A minimum of 5 years administrative experience with increasing scope of responsibility, in a Behavioral Health/Psychiatric or Academic Health Care setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's prepared (MBA, MHA, Social Work, etc.)
- 7 years experience
- Background in Behavioral Health
